For more security the Blockstream Jade Hardware Wallet allows users to create a Multisig Shield wallet. Multisig Shield allows for protection against several different attacks which may cause software wallets to be more vulnerable. Blockstream Jade uses server-enforced PIN protection to encrypt your Jade's recovery phrase.
During initialization, Jade prompts the user to choose a unique PIN. This PIN is used in combination with a blind PIN server to encrypt your Jade’s key material.

To prevent physical attacks on a stolen Jade from extracting/stealing coins, the seed is encrypted with random keys split between the Jade device and a lock-out server.

How does Blockstream Jade generate it's recovery phrase?
Your private keys (derived from your recovery phrase) require strong randomness to avoid loss of funds. Attackers can grind private keys and search for weakly-generated ones, hoping to steal funds that land on the corresponding addresses. Jade uses a multi-faceted approach to ensure your private keys have sufficient randomness to prevent this type of attack.
