A steel spring hook for the springs that hold your exhaust on.
Exhaust and muffler springs are short, stiff and tucked behind headers, radiators and heat shields. Pulling them with pliers or a screwdriver is how knuckles get opened up. This hook gives you a T-handle to pull with, a thin angled shank to reach in, and a chisel tip that slips under the spring end and lets go with a twist.
What it is built for
Exhaust pipe and muffler springs on motorcycles, dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs and snowmobiles. Mower deck, tractor and small-engine return springs. Drum brake return springs. Seat and tank hold-down springs. Any spring with an open end loop that you can pull in a straight line.
What it is not built for
It is a 6 inch hand tool, not a pry bar. Heavy center stand and kickstand springs on large touring bikes can exceed what one person can pull by hand with any hook this size; a dedicated stand spring tool with leverage is the right choice there. Do not lever the tip against the frame - the tip is ground thin on purpose to fit under spring ends, and side load can snap it. Not for suspension coil springs.
How to use it
Hook the spring end, pull straight back along the spring axis until the loop clears the post, twist the hook out. To install, hook the free end, pull it onto the post, twist off. Keep the pull in line with the spring and the tool will not bend.
Size and build
Solid steel shaft, about 1/4 in thick, black finish, rubber-dipped T-handle. Overall 6.1 x 3.15 in (15.5 x 8 cm), 55 g / 2 oz. No assembly. Ships as 1 piece.
