These professional artists' colours are unique because their development has been based on principles used by the Old Masters. The Old Masters blended pigments not only with oil but also with natural resin. Artists from the late Middle Ages were already using indigenous European resins, such as mastic from the Greek island of Chios and copal. Natural resins were used to enhance color brilliance and to give the painting the impression of depth. Many examples can be found in Byzantine art produced during the first centuries A.D. Throughout the long history of development of oil colouring techniques a large number of very special binder formulations have been tested, and this wealth of knowledge has been the foundation for the development of the Mussini range. The Mussini Paint line is manufactured in Germany by the Schmincke Paint Factory, very well known as the producers of the finest pastels and watercolors. Mussini Resin Oils have a very smooth, buttery consistency and are available in 102 colors. The use of resin produces an oil paint with outstanding luminosity and brilliance. These paints are incredible for glazing and to increase the depth in your paintings.
