It's sharp enough to go through many fabrics, but it has a slight ball point that doesn't make it ideal for going through many layers or high count fabrics. The shank (top) of these needles has a flat side and a rounded side. These fit all "home" models from Brother, Janome, Singer, Pfaff, Bernina, Viking, Elna, Kenmore, Baby Lock, Simplicity, Necchi, White and many others.
